"I grew up where the sea...
...is culture, heritage and path".
Thiago Sampaio is a Brazilian documentary director and photographer from Salvador, Bahia — born by the sea and grandson of a fisherman. His work blends aesthetics and environmental storytelling, exploring the profound relationship between people, culture, and the ocean.
Rooted in the traditions of the Brazilian coast, Thiago’s visual language captures the raw beauty and resilience of communities that live in harmony with nature. Through his films and photographs, he seeks to preserve stories that are often overlooked — stories of identity, sustainability, and belonging.
In 2022, Thiago released Brisa Baiana, an independent short film and photography book that portray the essence of Bahia — its wind, rhythm, and the people who live by the sea. The project established his voice as a storyteller deeply connected to his origins and the coastal landscape that shaped him.
In 2023, he directed Raízes do Mar (Sea Roots) for Corona Global, a poetic short film celebrating the intimate bond between people and the ocean, highlighting a lifestyle guided by simplicity and respect for nature. The film became a creative reference within the brand’s global environmental initiatives.
Thiago’s work moves between documentary and art, always grounded in authenticity and guided by light, texture, and silence. He has collaborated with global brands and environmental projects, including Voz dos Oceanos, and continues to create visual narratives that inspire reflection, awareness, and connection with the natural world.
