A Visual Journey by Thiago Sampaio
Maria, a surfer from Rio de Janeiro who found a new home in Bahia, rekindled her connection with the ocean through an exceptional project led by the talented shaper Bui Souza. This innovative initiative focuses on crafting 100% sustainable surfboards made from agave wood sourced from the Chapada Diamantina region.
Beyond protecting the environment, the project also supports local merchants, boosting the region’s economy. By taking part in this inspiring endeavor, Maria not only rediscovered her roots but also immersed herself in a deep connection with the sea — reigniting her passion for surfing and blending her memories of Rio with the breathtaking landscapes and waves of Bahia.
